Pop-Up Advertising

There are numerous solutions to avoiding pop-up advertising, and as can be expected the best involved forking out cash. Two simple cash free-options are:

(1) Shut down the pop-ups, as soon as they appear. Somehow they'll slowly learn not to reappear.

....though a more effective measure is to seek out a free firewall application:

(2) Click here for an example from "AdDelete":
  • Select "AdDelete Free (version 2.2.1 - 9/4/02)"
  • Save program to disk
  • Thru Windows Explorer, locate where you saved "AdDeletefree.exe" and install progam, following prompts
Note: Be careful when installing such programs on Internet dial-up settings, as may interfere with proxy settings

Refreshing Pages

If you are viewing a page and the information is out of date, the most likely problem is the disk cache within your Internet Browser. Your disk cache is designed to save you time on the Internet; the default setting is once per session. This means that each time you log on to the Internet your browser will load the current page, but if you ever go back to this page in the same Internet session, your browser will load the original page regardless if this page is the most recent or not. Your disk cache can also fill up, this means that you will never load the most recent page and you will only load the latest version of the page you have in your disk cache.

There are two solutions:

(1) The most simple is to use the "refresh" function: (a) Browser 'Refresh' button, (b) "View", 'Refresh' through the menu, (c) F5, or (d) right mouse click, 'refresh' will all compare the cache document to the network and show the most recent one. The latter is usually best, as often what appears to be one webpape, is a combination of many. The browser refresh only refreshes one of the pages, should there be many. So with the mouse, you're able to go to 'pin-point' the section you wish updated.

(2) An alternate solution is to empty or clear out your disk and memory cache. To clear out your disk cache, follow the instructions below for the type of browser you are using:
